I received these four little birds from a nice person on Freecycle. I'm still trying to figure out what breeds (or mix of breeds) the gold and white hens are. The fluffy black and white birds are Silkies, of course.

chooks. aussie for chickens. do canadians call them chooks, too? i never know what is UK in origin or North American.
i love the disco chicken (the one wtih flare pants) and silkies. when we go to the Ekka (the name of the brisbane royal show ~ state fair) we always check out the silkies.
what colour eggs do they lay?
That's a great description of the gold hen! So far, I'm getting two little eggs a day, one is off-white, the other is beige. I made the cutest little devilled eggs with a dozen of them.
